Plan Review - Permitting
What is a Building Permit?
A building permit authorizes you to construct, alter, repair, or change the occupancy of a building or multi-family structure.
General Guidelines
Prepare application with all required documents, submit permit request to the MSB portal, pay invoice, and post permit at construction site once approved.
How long does it take to get approval?
The review timeframe is contingent upon the thoroughness of the submittal. Our goal is to provide a response within three weeks.
What are the requirements?
WHO will develop project, WHEN the project will take place, WHERE project is located, and HOW the project will be completed.
How much will a permit cost?
New construction reviews are based on construction type, occupancy classification, and square footage. Renovations are evaluated based on project cost.
Permits are required for commercial projects involving new construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, relocation of structure. Applicants are responsible for determining the appropriate permitting requirements for project.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The F&LS office issues permits, where required by the Alaska Administrative Code. Additional permits may be required from other agencies, including but not limited to specific State Agencies such as Licensing or DEC, Matanuska Susitna Borough planning department, cities of Wasilla, Palmer, Houston, or other agencies. The property owner is responsible for determining what additional permits may be needed and completing those application processes.
