Community Development
Community Development carefully stewards public land and resources while delivering outstanding recreational and library services for everyone in our community.
On the Land and Resources side, we drive economic growth through thoughtful management of the Borough’s land, assets and natural resources. Our Recreation and Library teams foster connections by offering engaging programs, welcoming parks and trails, well-maintained facilities, and diverse opportunities that bring people together and support lifelong learning.
Services
Land Sales
Parcels that are new on the market are offered through a Competitive Land Sale. Parcels that are not sold there will be made available through Over-the-Counter Land Sales.
Over the Counter Commercial Timber Sales
Over-the-Counter timber harvest sales are offered in accordance with MSB 23.20.130 Methods and Authorization for the Sale, Lease, or Permitting of Forest Products. The sales are available for up to two years on a first come first serve basis.
Personal Use Firewood Permit
Firewood Harvests are offered for sale by permit for non-commercial use. Firewood harvested under a personal use permit may not be offered for sale, barter, or trade. Firewood harvest areas are only available while supplies last.
Personal Use Gravel Permits
Gravel is offered for sale by permit for non-commercial use. The gravel harvested under a personal use permit may not be offered for sale, barter, or trade. Gravel areas are only available while supplies last.

Tax & LID Foreclosure Sale
The Spring 2026 Tax & LID Foreclosure Sale Has concluded. There are no tax foreclosure properties for sale at this time.
Trail Care Program
In order to maintain the hundreds of miles of trails in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the borough is partnering with trail user groups to maintain and improve trails throughout the area.
